Happy New Year.... 2 new strips.

Well, Christmas is over and now it is time to pack up the decorations and throw away the boxes unless you were smart enough to give gifts in reusable bags. That seemed to be a good trend this year. I hope you like the new story arc we are starting with Sam. It will be about 6-8 strips long. Part 1 and 2 are up today and 3 and 4 will be up at the end of the week. Yes, it is quickly approaching that enchanted night. Where children are told if they do not go to bed at 8:30pm they might miss Santa. At least that is what one of my students told me. He asked if it were true. I told him of course it was. Santa was very busy and he could come at any moment. It is also a time to reflect on this holiday season. I know I have. Merry Christmas.

Wow! School is almost over. I can't believe it. That means I will have more time to write on my blog. Maybe. We have just started our own studio. We created our first book in October of 2007 and now it has gotten just some commission work for t-shirts and bumper stickers. I also got a call last night from my brother that someone wants us to handle their web space design. I am very excited and know it will be a lot of work but I am excited for the opportunities.

I hope you and your family are having a wonderful Christmas season. Don't forget it is the time that we celebrate the birth of Jesus the son of God. I try to remember that Jesus came help people and not just to shop. We did all our shopping online in November and had a wonderful time hanging out with friends and family this month. I have been so so many Christmas parties this year than I ever had in the past. My husband and I are trying for a baby. I am 31 now and have had many surgeries in the past 2 years but now we are waiting for a miracle. Please pray for me. Merry Christmas.

Just goes to show ya' that once school starts that it sucks you dry. It has almost been 2 months since I have gotten a chance to post on my blog. School is so fast paced and there is much less time to get things done. I hope to get on more often and recount some stories. I will be going to the doctor him to look at a place on my skin. It has doubled in size in a week. I hope it is nothing bad. Then tomorrow I will be going to my other doctor for him to tell me if my kidney/urerter/bladder is functioning properly. I had 8 surgeries in the past 2 years on these parts. Long story. It all started with a cyst on my left overy which turned into scar tissue wrapped around my urerter. Since I only have one kidney this caused major issues. But I am on the way to recovery and this may be my last appointment. Yea. More next time. Hugs.

Counting down the days. Two days until workdays begain. This year we have almost a week and a half of workdays. Usally there is just a week. I was complaining at first and hoped for more of those days to be spead throughout the school year but it will be nice to have them at the front also. I usally need more time to plan the workdays get eaten up by "snow" days (icy in the morning wet by 1oam). More soon. Hugs.

I looked at my calender today and it is only two weeks till I start my first workday. But I feel ready to go and am looking forward to it. I read my last blog and boy do I sound angry. I guess I was a year ago and I used this time to reflect on past thoughts to be thankful for this year. My husband and I went to Cane Creek Park today in the lower part of Union County, North Carolina and we had a fabulous time. We got an all day pass for 5 dollars. That includes beach asses, pattle boats and mini golf. I forgot how much swimming takes out of you. We have been very busy this summer working on a comic strip we hope to get published. Maybe in weeks to come I will be putting some of the work up here or giving you a link to the website but it is not ready yet. My husband also has a blog with some of his artwork on it check it out. Looking forward to School

Well there are ups and downs to working in an elementary school. One of them is getting moved around between the elementary schools in the county. This may be just my county but they like to move P.E., Music, and Art teachers around. I worked in Charlotte/Meck for 2 years but I was teaching middle school those years. I did not get moved around then. Last year I got moved to a new school and got notified of this change by a list of all the teachers and where their assignments were. Granted this might have been ok if we had not been told that we WOULD NOT BE MOVED. Also this might have been ok if I not had 6 surgeries that year. Having health problems really takes a lot out of you. Let me add one more... not only did they move me but they took me from a school that was 15 min from my house and assigned me to a school an hour and 15 min away. With gas prices sky rocketing this was not a good move for me at all. But I fought for a closer school. Sometimes it is good to be the squeaky wheel. I was very polite when I called the county office but I made sure they understood that I was not pleased. They did move me but they put up quite a fuss. They probably put up a fuss because they did not expect for someone to call up a question them. There were 3 other art teachers in the county that got moved and I found out later I was the only one that put up a fuss. Well all that gets me to the point of my title...Looking Forward to School. Well all that was last year. This year no one got moved and I will get to continue at a school that I don't have to prepare to meet all new people. It is nice to go and see people you know. The best thing is also I like the two new schools I got placed at last year. They are some really nice people that is what made me stay. Not only that but there are some really nice students at these schools. It makes it a joy to go back to school. It is hard going between two schools and being a "half-time" employee but there are perks. It is nice meeting a large variety of people. I love people. Even the people I dislike. I know that sounds strange but sometimes it is nice talking to lots of people. Now the people I dislike will never know I dislike them because that is not how to live. The biggest problem with working at two schools is leaving materials that school number one and you happen to be at school number two that day. But again I am Looking Forward to School. Fun with Painted Fingers

It's funny when you are start something you try to put a name to it. I usally do not have too hard of a time coming up with titles but this one proved to be very diffficult. I even looked up on the web ways to name things. I have in the past tried to come up with punny names that mean something. I actually wrote out a list and then decided to pick one. Some titles that I thought about were:
Through the paintbrush
The life of an art teacher
Teachers beware the art teacher is coming
How to see beyond the crowd
My feet are itching

These were my first attempts. And finally Fun with Painted Fingers. The bane of my life as art teacher. You see I start my day with "I wonder if I am painting today?" Then the next question is "Do I want to wear my smock today?" If the first question is a yes and the second answer is a no then it looks like old clothes today. I did not have this trouble until I started working at an elementary school. You see my little darling get so caught up in painting that they forget that they have paint on their fingers, clothes, noses, and brushes. I have had to scrub many times during class to get little painted fingerprints out of my clothes. But oh do they love painting. When doing a survey of my class as the end of the year every child in the place always exclaims, "We love painting the best!" I hope you liked my first entry. More to come. Hugs.
